A set of cast idler wheels for the American M4 Sherman medium tank in 1:35 scale, in the version marked as pattern No. 2. The idler wheel sits at the rear of the running gear and tensions the track; because it stands on its own and is not hidden by other parts, it is very well visible on a model and its shape draws the eye at once.
Sherman idler wheels were made in several versions that differ in the shape of the hub, the number of openings and the ribs. As with the road wheels, the types were mixed in the field, because spare parts were taken from whatever was available. The right pattern is therefore not a condition, but it helps to place a model with a particular batch and period.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces. Bond with super glue and check that the wheel sits on the axis of the running gear. Paint the rubber tire, if the version has one, a dark gray. The rear of the running gear is where the most mud collects, so work the pigments in more strongly right there.
The set is an accessory to a kit and does not replace the kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
