A resin accessory from the Polish maker PANZER ART in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle but a set of castings of sandbags arranged on the floor of the car and in front of the windshield. The casting captures the bulging of filled sandbag cloth, the seams, the knots and the way the bags press against one another and adapt to the shape of the floor, that is exactly what is slow to model from filler and rarely comes out evenly.
The Willys light off-road car had no armor protection at all, and so crews helped themselves. Sandbags on the floor were to damp the effect of mines, and more were stacked in front of the windshield and on the hood as improvised protection against splinters and fire from the front. Cars modified in this way are a rewarding subject: the modification is conspicuous, documented for the period and gives a model a story without the need to build a large scene.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surfaces with a file, sand wet and with your airways protected. Glue with super glue and fill the gaps against the floor and the windshield frame, so that the bags seat and do not look like a block laid on top. Apply a primer before painting. Sandbag cloth looks good in warm earth shades rather than in gray: a base, a darker wash into the seams and between the bags, then a light dry brush on the tops of the folds. Finally add dust in the places where the crew and their equipment rub against the bags.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as resin castings. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
