The base works with the look of the deck of the aircraft carrier Cavour, which the Italian Navy lists under the designation C-550. It serves to give a finished model a matching setting instead of leaving it standing on a bare shelf. The 1:72 scale is given directly by the name of the item.
The Cavour was commissioned in 2008 and has since filled the role of flagship of the Italian Navy. She is built for operating machines with a short takeoff and vertical landing, and that is why she has the characteristic ski jump at the bow. Besides purely military tasks, her use in humanitarian operations is allowed for as well: the ship has spaces for vehicles and medical facilities, which come into their own in such cases.
