The Kirby Kite in prototype form is a kit of the British single-seat glider in 1:48 scale from LACI.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the British single-seat Kirby Kite glider in the form of the prototype machine. It is an unusual subject outside the mainstream of military models, and in 1:48 scale it yields an elegant model with a long slender wing.
The Kirby Kite is a design of the British sporting school of the 1930s. It is a single-seat glider with a wooden frame and fabric covering, whose most conspicuous feature is the cranked gull wing of large span. Machines of this type were used for training, for cross-country soaring and for competition flying, and several of them have survived to the present day in airworthy condition and in museum collections. The prototype differed from the machines built later in details of its finish.
The glider has thin sections and long trailing edges, so handle the parts carefully and let the glued joints cure thoroughly before you start sanding. Dry-fit the whole assembly before gluing and match the choice of glue to the material of the parts; on resin and printed parts use super glue and wash the parts beforehand, and on plastic sections a thin modeling cement. The fabric covering of period gliders can be suggested by a fine shading of the ribs and a slightly uneven sheen. Light finishes need a good base, otherwise the joints show through.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
