A kit of the British Avro 698 Vulcan bomber in the B.Mk.2 version in 1:144 scale from the manufacturer Wolfpack. According to the name, the boxing is aimed at machines deployed in the Falklands conflict. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:144 scale is practical on large bombers, because the finished model fits into an ordinary display case and still keeps the striking silhouette of a delta wing.
The Vulcan was a four-engine jet bomber with a prominent delta wing that gave it an unmistakable shape. Compared with the first series, the B.Mk.2 version had a modified wing, more powerful engines and modernized equipment. The machines served with the Royal Air Force for whole decades, later in the tanker and reconnaissance roles as well. In 1982 the Vulcan went down in history with exceptionally long missions from Ascension Island, which called for repeated refueling in flight; it is precisely this deployment that the name of the boxing refers to.
The large area of the wing means a large area to sand, so take care over the seams and preserve the engraved lines. Glue the parts according to the material: plastic ones with a thin cement for polystyrene, any resin parts with super glue. In 1:144 scale a clean surface and a thin layer of paint look best, as heavy coats will fill the detail in. Dark coats on the upper surfaces call for a perfect base, and a primer helps. Apply the decals on a glossy varnish and, given the size of the model, work with them carefully so that no visible edges of film are left. Choose a very fine patina, as in a small scale exaggerated effects are distracting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
