This detailing set from the manufacturer Wolfpack replaces the plastic exhaust nozzle on a model of the Israeli IAI Kfir fighter in 1:48 scale. The resin casting captures the division of the nozzle petals and the inner surfaces of the duct in one piece, so the filling of the longitudinal seam falls away, which on split plastic parts arises precisely in the most visible place.
Note: this is not a model of an aircraft, but an accessory fitted into a kit bought separately.
The Kfir is an Israeli single-engine supersonic fighter aircraft with a delta wing and canards, which comes from the design of the Dassault Mirage 5. The fundamental change against the French original was an American General Electric J79 engine in place of the ATAR engine. The J79 is shorter but needs more cooling air, so the rear part of the Kfir's fuselage is shorter, bulkier and completed by a conspicuous air scoop at the root of the vertical tail. That is precisely why the Kfir's nozzle differs in shape from the Mirage's and is characteristic of the aircraft's silhouette.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water and rid them of the mold release agent, otherwise neither glue nor paint will hold. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and do not break it off. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as a cement for plastic models does not work on resin. Sanding is best done wet and with respiratory protection. Apply a primer before painting. The inside of the nozzle is usually sprayed in shades of heat-stained metal and titanium tones, and once it is dry a thin dark wash helps to bring out the division of the petals.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The set is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
