A model of the French Dewoitine D.520 fighter from the Polish maker COBI. It is not a plastic model in the usual sense: the parts click into each other, so you need no modeling tools for the build. The fuselage, the wing, the tail surfaces and the landing gear are assembled from shaped parts, while the national markings and other insignia are carried by printing directly on the parts. The instructions guide the build step by step from the fuselage to completion.
The Dewoitine D.520 was a single-seat single-engine fighter with a cantilever low-wing layout and retractable landing gear that entered service at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Hispano-Suiza V12 engine, and characteristic features are the slender nose of the fuselage with the radiator underneath it and a cannon firing through the propeller hub. It lagged behind the newest fighters of its day in speed, but it was agile and was among the best-performing French types of its time.
Build the fuselage first as a firm core and only then fit the wing and the tail surfaces; the parts then line up better and the model will sit straight. Keep checking that both halves of the wing are at the same height, as asymmetry shows at first glance on aircraft. The propeller and the landing gear are the finest parts of the assembly, so leave yourself time for them. The finished model is sturdy enough to be carried and can be displayed on a base or freely on a shelf.
