David Piper Green is the dark green of the racing cars of the British privateer David Piper of the 1960s.
Responsibility details are not available.
This shade does not belong to a car maker but to one driver. David Piper had his cars painted in a uniform dark green, so they could be recognized at first glance regardless of which brand was under the tail. That is exactly what makes his green interesting for a modeler too: it is the mark of a stable rather than of a factory.
Piper was a British privateer who in the 1960s and at the start of the 1970s was among the most persistent entrants in long-distance races. He gradually fielded Ferraris, including V12 prototypes, and later a Porsche 917 as well. His machines appeared on circuits across Europe and in Africa, and their green became a byword among collectors of racing history. Besides his own entries he lent the cars to other drivers and to film crews, so the green appeared outside the result sheets too.
For modelers who build racing classics and want to get a particular stable right rather than only a period mood. Dark tones moreover take the emphasizing of panel lines well, so a model does not lose its engraving. The green of Piper's cars was accompanied by a light circle with the race number, which served as the main distinguishing mark on a dark surface.
