A kit of a medium tank in 1:100 scale from Zebranomodel. The designation in the name follows the German marking of captured equipment: the number with the letter f in brackets refers to the French origin of the vehicle. The model therefore captures a French tank taken over into German service, which makes a rewarding subject for a collection, because the same type can be built in two entirely different color guises.
The subject is a French tank of the second half of the 1930s with a cast hull and a cast single-man turret, armed with a 47 mm gun and a machine gun. For its day it had well-arranged armor and decent mobility; the weakness remained the overloading of the commander, who in the turret worked the weapon, observed the surroundings and directed the vehicle all at once. After 1940 some of the vehicles passed into German service under a designation of their own and were used above all for training, for securing the rear areas and on peripheral sectors, where the demands on armament were lower.
A cast hull and turret mean that the surface of the model should be rougher than on welded vehicles. The texture can be suggested with a thin layer of modeling putty spread with a brush dipped in thinner, but carefully at 1:100 scale, so that the detail is not clogged. Sand the parting lines down with fine paper. Apply a thin primer before painting. Depending on the guise of the vehicle you choose, go for either a uniform shade or a French multicolored scheme. Keep the patina restrained and concentrate the dust on the running gear and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
