This item is not a kit but an accessory to a model of a motorcycle in 1:12 scale. It addresses the final drive, that is, the drive chain running from the front sprocket to the rear sprocket, and it is cut for the racing Honda NSR250, a two-stroke machine of the 250 cc class of road racing.
A quarter-liter racing machine has a noticeably more slender final drive than liter-class machines, and it is precisely on it that the simplification of a plastic part shows most. A molded chain has blanked-off gaps between the links and coarser rollers, which in 1:12 scale come across as oversized. A replacement chain of individual links keeps the correct pitch, wraps around the sprocket and leaves a view through to the swingarm between its runs. The difference is discernible mainly in profile, the view from which a model is most often photographed and displayed.
Start dry: fit the chain onto both sprockets and check whether the length is right. It is tuned by the number of links, not by force. Try the rear sprocket on the hub beforehand, so that the chain runs in one plane, as a chain out of line is visible on a finished model at once and cannot be put right afterward. Fit the chain only once the swingarm is finished and the rear wheel is in place. Bond with super glue in a minimal amount, applied with the tip of a pin. Once it is done, leave the upper run with a slight sag and take the surface down with a dark shade with a little gloss; clean silver metal looks out of place on a model.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
