A model of the British battlecruiser HMS Tiger in the small ship scale of 1:1200.
Responsibility details are not available.
HMS Tiger was a British battlecruiser from the time before the First World War. Battlecruisers came into being as ships which were to have the artillery of a battleship and at the same time be fast enough to choose for themselves when to enter a fight; the price paid for it was weaker armor. The Tiger carried her main artillery in four twin turrets of 343 mm caliber. During the war she served with the battlecruiser force, was hit in the action at Dogger Bank and took part in the Battle of Jutland.
The scale 1:1200 is among the smallest of the ship scales. A ship roughly 215 meters long comes out in it at not quite eighteen centimeters, so a whole force fits into a display case and the ships can be measured against one another. Detail in this scale is not made by shape but by color and shadow.
Reach for matte shades; a sheen will enlarge a small ship to the eye and give the scale away. A darker cast in the shadows of the superstructures and a lighter tone on the upper surfaces will do more for the impression than the finest of parts. The model looks good on a smooth dark surface which suggests water. Dust is removed from it with a soft brush, not with a cloth, which could bend or knock off the masts and the cranes.
It suits a collector of warships who builds whole forces into a display case, and a modeler with an interest in the Royal Navy of the First World War. The exact method that goes with the model is described in the manufacturer's instructions. Paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
