Aires 1:48 McDonnell F-4B/N/C/D Phantom II exhaust nozzles

A resin set of exhaust nozzles for a model of the Phantom II in 1:48 scale, intended for the early F-4B, F-4N, F-4C and F-4D versions. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory replacing the plastic nozzles. The set is cut for the Zoukei-Mura kit. Check the number of parts on the box.

The real subject

The Phantom II was a twin-engine multirole aircraft powered by General Electric J79 powerplants. The F-4B and F-4N versions were naval, while the F-4C and F-4D served with the US Air Force. All four belong to the early Phantom family and have their exhaust nozzles arranged the same way, which is why one set covers them. Later versions, for example the F-4E, F-4J or F-4S, have the rear end of the engine nacelles arranged differently and need a different set, which is the usual division in the range of detail parts for the Phantom.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise a primer will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level them with an abrasive; protect your breathing while sanding and sand wet. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The nozzles on the Phantom tend to be heat discolored and dirty, so after a metallic base a dark wash in the recesses and fine iridescent transitions laid on with heavily thinned paint will stand out. Apply the metallic shades only at the end of the build, as they are harder to overspray and to mask.
