A vacuum-formed clear canopy from the Czech accessory maker Brengun for a model of the two-seat A-6E carrier attack aircraft scaled to 1:144. The accessory replaces the clear part from the kit; the model is not in the box.
The A-6E seats its crew side by side, so the cockpit is wide and its glazing makes up a large part of the upper line of the nose. The thickness of the clear part counts double here: a thick wall lifts the canopy above the line of the fuselage and, seen from above, creates a pronounced optical rim at the edges. A thin-walled replacement evens the line out and the interior stays visible without distortion.
The work starts inside. Paint the cockpit tub, add the instrument panels and the seats and let it dry thoroughly: once the canopy is glued on there is no way back. Take the canopy itself out by tracing the outline with a scalpel halfway through the thickness and breaking it out, then level the edge by sanding on paper laid on a board. Restore clarity by polishing and dipping it in gloss varnish; let it drip and dry in a dust-free place. Handle it with gloves or by the edges, as a fingerprint is harder to remove from thin film than from plastic. Glue it with clear cement for glazing or with white glue.
The accessory is supplied without a kit and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
