What the masks are for

The Bf 109 of the E series has a multi-pane canopy with a number of straight frames, which in 1:72 scale is particularly hard to mask — tape would have to be cut into strips a fraction of a millimeter wide. Pre-cut templates do away with that work and give a repeatably identical result. The masks match the shape of the glazing of a particular kit, so check before buying that they match the one you are building; the division of the canopy differs between makers. The number of masks in the set and the material used are stated on the box.

The procedure for use

• Degrease the glazing first and dry it.
• Lift the mask with tweezers and lay it in place; do not pull on it.
• Press the edges down with a blunt tool, so that paint cannot creep under them.
• Spray in several thin coats, not in one heavy one.
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, ideally at a sharp angle.
