A warm, rich yellow suits warning and recognition stripes on models, training machines, construction and agricultural equipment and any area meant to set a machine apart from its surroundings. The number RAL 1006 names the shade according to an industrial standard; in that standard the group of numbers beginning with one is reserved for yellow shades, so the designation itself tells you which part of the chart the paint belongs to.
Yellow covers worst of all the shades and any darker base pulls it toward green or ocher. The key to success is therefore a white base and several genuinely thin coats with time between them. Trying to make up the richness with one heavy coat leads to ridges on edges and flooded engraved lines. Wash and degrease the surface first so that the paint holds and does not come away with the masking tape. Stir the bottle well before use and thin it with the thinner intended for this range of paints; the thinning ratio and the airbrush pressure are given by the manufacturer in the instructions on the packaging.
Yellow stripes on a model tend to be narrow and sharp, so spray them first and only then mask them. Lay the tape on perfectly dry paint and peel it slowly, at an angle away from the edge, or the yellow coat will chip. Yellow goes on worse with a brush than with an airbrush, as the strokes stay visible; if you have no other option, count on a larger number of coats.
