The Vickers Valiant was the first of the British V force, which also included the Victor and the Vulcan. Against both younger types it looks more conservative: a straighter wing, more sober shapes. In 1:144 scale the model is small, and all the more clearly it shows whether it stands firmly and squarely on all its wheels.
The package holds replacement wheels with weighted tires in 1:144 scale, according to the name in a universal version. A weighted wheel has its contact face shaped as though the whole aircraft were standing on it; the model then stands not on a thin outline but on a small area, and it looks heavy. The number of pieces in the package, the material of the parts and the application to a particular kit are given in the manufacturer's catalog sheet.
Cut the surplus material and the traces of production away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully, so as not to spoil the shape of the contact face. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. They are not polystyrene, so cement for plastic models will not bond them; use super glue and the procedure given in the manufacturer's instructions. Glue the wheel on so that the flattening of the tire points down toward the ground and the axle is horizontal, otherwise the model stands crooked and the weighted effect works against you.
It suits modelers who want to build a Valiant standing on an airfield surface and who are bothered that the wheels from the kit look unloaded. It is a small change with a large effect: it alters the impression the whole model makes without your having to touch the build. Which versions the set covers exactly is to be checked in the manufacturer's catalog sheet; the model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
