1:144 F4U Corsair and F6F Hellcat wheels is a resin set of wheels for models of American carrier fighters in 1:144 scale in five types, an accessory to a kit rather than a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds cast resin main landing gear wheels for models of the American Vought F4U Corsair and Grumman F6F Hellcat carrier fighters. Various types of wheel are represented, so you can pick the pattern that matches the particular machine you are building. The accessory is made by Brengun of the Czech Republic. The aircraft model is not included in the package.
Wheels are a doubly rewarding accessory on aircraft models. First, the tread pattern and the sidewall lettering are what injected plastic manages worst, as the parting plane of the mold runs across both and the detail is lost. Second, a wheel is the only part that touches the ground on a real aircraft, so a bulge in the tire under the weight of the machine is expected. Resin wheels tend to be cast with that bulge already suggested and with sharp relief on the hub, which immediately sets a model on the ground more convincingly.
Wash the castings in warm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. On wheels the casting block tends to sit where the wheel meets the ground; cut it off with a saw and sand the area so that the wheel stands straight and both wheels are the same height, otherwise the model will limp. It is bonded with super glue. When painting, a dark gray base for the tire instead of black helps; the hub is then easiest to spray separately and fit at the very end.
The accessory set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
