1:144 Grumman HU-16 B Albatross is a plastic kit of an amphibious search and rescue aircraft in a small scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set captures the famous Grumman rescue flying boat in the HU-16 B form. It is made by Sova Model and is a classic injection-molded kit in 1:144 scale, in which the machine keeps the unmistakable outline of its boat hull with the high-set wing and the engine nacelles above the water line. Inside the package are plastic parts and decals.
The Albatross was designed to land on the sea as well as on a hard runway, and it is precisely this amphibious ability that made it the most valuable tool of the search units. A pair of radial engines gave enough power even for a takeoff from a choppy surface, and its long range allowed it to patrol for hours over the open sea. The version designated HU-16 B was given a larger wing and further changes for sustained flights. It lasted decades in service, flew with the air force, the navy and the Coast Guard, and a number of machines ended up with foreign users.
The bottom of the fuselage has the shape of a boat hull, so pay attention to the lengthwise seam, so that the line of the keel does not disappear once it is sanded. Try seating the engine nacelles dry before you decide on glue. Conspicuous high-visibility areas and stripes are better sprayed through a mask than painted with a brush, and the decals then hold on a glossy base without silvering.
The package holds unglued and unpainted parts; the chemicals needed come separately.
