A kit of the carrier dive bomber Douglas SBD Dauntless in the SBD-5 version in 1:144 scale. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Brengun, which has long specialized in small aviation scales. The boxing is focused thematically on service in the Pacific theater, as the subtitle of the package also suggests. The model is intended to be glued together and painted.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was a single-engine two-seat dive bomber and reconnaissance machine of the US Navy and the Marine Corps. It was powered by an air-cooled Wright R-1820 radial engine and its characteristic feature was the perforated dive brakes on the wing, which made a controlled dive possible. The crew consisted of a pilot and a rear gunner. The SBD-5 version was the most numerously built variant and served in the second half of the war from the decks of aircraft carriers as well as from land bases in the Pacific.
In 1:144 scale what decides is the cleanliness of the surface. Remove the gate remains with a sharp scalpel and rather sand the parting seams lightly with very fine paper than fill them. Glue with thin cement for plastic applied by capillary action, so that the plastic is not deformed. Before painting choose a thin primer that does not clog the fine engraved detail, and spray with an airbrush at lower pressure. Do two-tone or three-layer naval camouflage schemes as a transition from the darker shade to the lighter one. Apply a gloss varnish before the decals and a matte one once dry. The panel lines only need to be suggested with a very thin wash, so that a small model does not look dirty.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
