This set of three round fan grilles from the manufacturer MAiM is a small but very effective detail for diorama builders. It is precisely such elements, ventilation openings, grilles and technical vents, that turn a smooth wall into a believable building. The set is listed in the universal 1:35/Uniscale, so thanks to the general character of the subject you can also use it in scenes in neighboring scales, for instance 1:32.
The grilles suit the facades of urban buildings, cellar walls, the walls of bunkers, factory halls, garages and ship and technical interiors. They work superbly in modern and post-apocalyptic subjects, which MAiM has long devoted itself to, because rusted ventilation on a peeling wall tells a story at once. A circular shape is easy to set in: you only have to drill or sand a matching opening in the surface and glue the grille into it.
Clean the casting before painting, sand any marks left by casting down gently and prime it with a spray or an airbrush. Fill a base in a dark metallic shade out with a dry brush in a lighter metal on the edges of the fins; rust comes from pigments or oil paints. It pays to paint a dark opening behind the grille, which creates the illusion of the depth of a ventilation shaft.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
