An injection-molded plastic kit of the American prototype fighter YF-23 Black Widow II in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. The YF-23 was a technology demonstrator with a markedly stealth-shaped airframe that competed for the American fifth-generation fighter contract. In the small 1:144 scale the result is a striking model of an unusual aircraft for the collection.
The YF-23 was created at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s as the competing design by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas for the American Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program. This twin-engined machine with diamond-shaped wings and V-canted tail surfaces was fast and had a very low radar signature. In the competition it eventually lost to the rival YF-22, from which the production F-22 Raptor was developed. Only two prototypes were built.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with thin cement for plastic; in the small scale work precisely. Glue the clear cockpit canopy with canopy glue so that the glazing stays clear, and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. The prototypes carried dark gray finishes - after the gloss varnish and the decals, pick out the panel lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
