Figures of members of the Sudetendeutsches Freikorps of 1938 in 1:16 scale. The large format gives room for painting the face and for fine shading of the clothing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sudetendeutsches Freikorps was a paramilitary body put together in September 1938 from Sudeten Germans. Its detachments operated in the Czechoslovak borderland at the time of the culminating crisis over the cession of the border territories, and after the Munich Agreement their activity was ended. For a modeler it is a subject from the autumn of 1938, that is from a period that appears in dioramas substantially less often than the later war years.
The figures are listed in 1:16 scale. A figure around 175 cm tall in reality comes out at roughly 11 cm in this scale, so it is a noticeably larger format than a modeler is used to from the usual diorama scales. The size gives room for a carefully worked face and for the folds of the fabric, but at the same time it forgives nothing: every edge left unfinished shows on a figure this large.
Cut excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder back carefully, so as not to disturb the shape. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, or the paint may not hold.
The figures will be appreciated by builders of dioramas and display scenes from 1938 as well as by collectors who want to add a human dimension and scale to models of vehicles. Paints, glue, a base and scenic accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
