An injection-molded plastic kit of the iconic American light utility vehicle of the Second World War in the large 1:16 scale from Takom. The large scale allows the interior, engine and chassis to be rendered in rich detail. Besides the plastic parts the box contains photo-etched parts and decals with several marking options, so the result is a detailed model of one of the best-known wartime vehicles of all.
The Jeep – officially the quarter-ton 4x4 utility truck G503 (Willys MB) – was the universal light vehicle of the Allied armies in the Second World War. It was powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine and, thanks to four-wheel drive and low weight, it coped with difficult terrain. It served for reconnaissance, liaison and moving personnel, and as a tow vehicle, and it became a symbol of the US Army. The vehicle remained in service after the war as well.
In a large scale it pays to work in subassemblies. First finish and paint the engine, chassis and interior – once the body is together, many details are out of reach. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with super glue. Apply the base olive drab finish (primer plus paint) with an airbrush. For realistic weathering, use washes in the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects on the chassis and fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
