About product

ELEFANT 1:35 armored exhaust covers for the Tiger I, without a casting number

A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale from the brand ELEFANT. This is not a kit of the tank but a replacement part for the rear of the hull, with which you replace the armored exhaust covers from the original kit. According to the name the set is cut for Border Model kits and the material is enough for two vehicles. This version has a surface without a raised casting number, so it suits cases where the vehicle in a period photograph bears no such mark or where you do not want to deal with one on the model. The covers match the production stages of the Tiger I from the initial through the early and mid to the late ones.

What the set is for

The hull rear on the Tiger I is on show and highly detailed, which is why modelers often improve it. A resin casting can have thinner walls and sharper edges than anything that comes out of an injection mold, and a patina is easier to work on it. The variant without a number is more universal at the same time: it does not tie you to one particular vehicle and leaves your hands free when choosing markings. If, on the contrary, you want an exact match to a photograph of a machine that carried a maker's mark, reach for the sister variant with a casting number.

Building and painting tips

First cut away the plastic covers from the original kit and level the mating surface by sanding. Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, with super glue, and a joint can be strengthened with a drop of gap-filling cyanoacrylate. Apply a base coat before painting. A smooth surface without relief needs all the more careful a patina, so that it does not look empty: first shades of rust and soot around the exhaust outlets, then dust, and finally a light emphasis of the edges with a dry brush.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tiger I from Border Model kits.
  • Anyone after the universal version without a maker's mark on the surface.
  • Modelers who care about thin edges and a faithful hull rear.
  • Builders with experience of resin parts.

This is an accessory set, not a model of the tank. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
