Precision Blade Straight – 5 pcs.

Precision Blade Straight - 5 pcs.

Replacement blades from the Precision range by AMMO of Mig Jimenez. They are a consumable part for a modeling scalpel, not a tool in their own right, so the handle itself is not part of the package. A straight edge is the all-purpose shape for separating parts from sprue gates, for cleaning up mold seams and for precise straight cuts along a ruler. According to the name, the package holds 5 pieces. A sharp blade matters more in modeling than it seems: a blunt edge does not cut but tears, it leaves white burrs on plastic and it easily slips when extra pressure is applied.

Use

• Make sure the shape of the shank matches your handle; that is not stated here.
• Change the blade as soon as the plastic starts to tear or a white edge forms after a cut.
• Cut with several shallow passes instead of one heavy one; the cut is cleaner and the blade lasts longer.
• Work on a cutting mat, because a hard surface dulls the edge quickly.
• Keep the blade dry and clean, and wipe any glue and paint residue off it.
• Put worn blades in a closed container, not loose in the trash can.

Who they are for

They suit anyone who builds plastic models and figures and regularly cleans parts of sprue-gate and mold-seam remains. A stock of replacement blades belongs to the basic equipment of the bench alongside sprue cutters and files, because working with a blunt blade takes more time and ruins more material than a fresh blade.

The blades are very sharp. Cut away from your body, never hold a part with your fingers in the path of the cut, and keep the tool out of the reach of children.
