An accessory for finishing the interior of a car in the collector scale of 1:18. This is not a model of a car but the steering controls alone, with which the simplified part from the model's original equipment is replaced. The material and the extent of the package are stated on the box.
On a miniature the cockpit is the place everyone looks who picks the model up. The steering wheel stands exactly on the axis of that gaze, and its shape gives away the character of a car faster than anything else: a thin rim with a wooden insert belongs to veterans, a flat lower edge and lightened spokes to competition specials. Replacing the original part therefore shifts the reading of the whole interior, even though it is a single component.
Check dry that the hub sits on the steering column; shorten any overhang, so that the wheel does not stand too far from the instruments. The rim looks believable in a deep black with a matte surface, while metal spokes can take a lightly polished shade. Stitching or a colored marker on the vertical axis can be suggested with a fine brush and heavily thinned paint. If you are taking the model apart, make a note of the order of the parts.
