A pair of Martin-Baker GRU-7A ejection seats in 1:72 scale. A replacement for the simplified part from a kit, and one that shows straight away in an open cockpit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Two Martin-Baker GRU-7A ejection seats in 1:72 scale. The seat tends to be the most conspicuous element in the cockpit of a jet aircraft, the one that shows under a slid-back canopy, so replacing it shifts the final impression more than most other small changes.
Martin-Baker ejection seats of the GRU-7 series were used in American carrier-borne jets. Their look is set by the frame with its guide rails, the headrest, the arrangement of harness straps and the controls for firing the seat. It is exactly these details that tend to be suppressed on a kit part or only suggested by engraving.
The parts are not polystyrene and are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest off carefully, so that the seating face is flat. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. It pays to spray the base shade, paint the harness straps and the cushions in with a brush and pull the whole together with a dark wash that brings out the structure. Always seat the seat dry first and only then glue it in for good.
For modelers who build jet aircraft in 1:72 scale and want a more accurate seat in the cockpit. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
