A set of three-dimensional decals for the interior of a plastic Phantom model in the F-4J and F-4S versions in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit and not a photo-etched set - these are decals that carry a layer of firm relief as well as printed color. They are applied straight onto the plastic cockpit parts and take the place of lengthy painting of dials, buttons and labels. The gain shows above all on a model with the canopy open, where the Phantom interior is easy to see. The decals are shaped to the parts of the Hasegawa kit, with which the set is fitted.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4J was a carrier fighter of the US Navy and Marine Corps - a two-seat machine with two J79 turbojets and a radar for intercepting air targets. The F-4S version was created by rebuilding F-4J machines: it received leading-edge slats on the wing, a strengthened airframe structure and revised avionics. Both versions have a tandem cockpit layout, with the pilot in front and the radar operator behind, so two separate stations have to be dealt with.
First spray the cockpit parts with the base interior color and let them dry completely. Cut the decal out close to the edge, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and transfer it with tweezers - in 1:72 scale these are very small pieces, so good light and a magnifier are worth having. The relief layer is thicker than on an ordinary decal, so let it settle slowly into the shape of the part and press it down gently with a cotton bud or a wooden stick. Dose a decal softener sparingly and drop by drop; too much could ripple the relief. Once dry, a light matte coat is all the surface needs.
