3D decals for the cockpit of the RF-4C Phantom II in 1:72 scale — color relief printing for the interior of the reconnaissance version of the Phantom.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of three-dimensional decals for the interior of a plastic model of the RF-4C reconnaissance Phantom in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory — besides printed color the decals also have a layer of firm relief, and they are applied directly onto the plastic cockpit parts. They save the coloring of dials and lettering, which in this scale can only be painted with great difficulty.
The RF-4C was an unarmed tactical reconnaissance Phantom of the US Air Force, derived from the F-4C fighter version. Its recognition feature is the lengthened nose with room for photographic equipment. What matters for a modeler is that the reconnaissance version differs not only on the outside: the rear station belonged to a reconnaissance systems operator, and its panels have a different layout from the radar operator's station on the fighter Phantoms. That is exactly why the reconnaissance version has a set of its own and cannot be replaced by a set for the fighter form.
First spray the cockpit parts with the base interior color and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the decal out close to the edge, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and transfer it with tweezers — the areas are small in 1:72 scale, so good light and a magnifier help. The relief layer is thicker than on an ordinary decal, so let it bed down gradually into the shape of the part and press it only gently with a cotton swab. Dose the softener drop by drop; an excess will ripple the relief. A finished interior only needs flattening slightly.
