Pre-cut self-adhesive masks from the SX-Art brand for a model of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter in the A-6 version. The set serves to mask the glazing before spraying: the pieces are stuck onto the clear part, sprayed over along with the airframe and taken off once dry. The target kit is Border.
The Fw 190 has a cockpit canopy with narrow frames and, besides those, a row of tiny facets that have to be masked one at a time. The smallest pieces on the sheet are barely a few millimeters at this scale, and it is with them that it is decided whether the cockpit will be clean. The proven procedure: work on a light base, so that you find a piece after it drops, lift it off the sheet with the point of a sharp knife driven into its edge rather than with your fingers, and carry it with tweezers with fine jaws. Never hold a piece in the middle of its face, as the bend will not then straighten out again. Before pressing it down, let it settle freely and check the position from two sides.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry without wiping it with a cloth. Press the edges of the masks down with a toothpick, because that is where paint most often creeps under. Spray at a right angle, in thin coats. The interior color goes on the frames first, then the external camouflage. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, at an angle backward; adhesive residue comes away with a cotton swab dampened in water. Never clean a clear part with alcohol or thinner, as it could go matte.
