A mask set for the KTM-8 tram in 1:43 scale outlines the glazing of the car, the doors, the lights and the dividing line of the transit livery. It is an aid to painting, not a kit.

Shaped pre-cut painting masks for a model of the KTM-8 tramcar in 1:43 scale. The set holds no parts of the car and no kit; it serves painting alone. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts and onto the carbody, sprayed over and lifted off once dry. What they leave behind is a crisp edge between the glass and the window frame.
As far as paintwork goes, a tram is the most demanding category of city vehicle. The carbody is long, the windows run one behind another in a regular row, and any unevenness in the frame width shows at first glance, because the eye compares the windows with each other. Add the door glazing, the front window and the lights. Masking such a car by hand takes longer than the spraying itself. Pre-cut masks hold the same geometry along the whole length of the car and suit the typical transit livery as well, where a horizontal dividing line between two shades runs along the side.
Degrease both the carbody and the clear parts before sticking the masks on. Lay the mask down from the center toward the edges and push it into the corners with a blunt tip. Spray in thin coats, and on long surfaces in overlapping passes so that no banding appears. Take the mask off at a shallow angle backward while the paint is not yet fully cured. On a two-tone scheme work from the lighter shade to the darker one. Apply the decals only to a dried and clear-coated surface.
