A kit of the Mi-17 transport helicopter in 1:48 scale from Anetra, released as a limited edition with a focus on the machines of the Polish Air Force. In 1:48 a helicopter of this size comes out at pleasant dimensions: room enough to work up the cabin and the landing gear, while making sensible demands on a display case.
The Mi-17 is the export designation of the Soviet and later Russian transport helicopter that was designated at home as the Mi-8MT. You will tell it from the older Mi-8T by its more powerful TV3-117 turboshaft engines, its shorter engine nacelles and the tail rotor moved to the other side of the tail boom. The machine serves to carry troops and cargo, to evacuate casualties, for airborne tasks and in an armed configuration with weapon racks. The Polish Air Force has operated the Mi-17 for a long time and has deployed it on missions abroad as well, where the machines were given desert schemes and additional equipment.
Work from the inside out: finish the cargo cabin and the pilots' station first, and only then close up the fuselage. Mask the broken-up glazing with tape or a ready-made mask and paint the frames only after the interior has been sprayed. Leave the rotor head and the blades for the end and paint them separately, as they are easier to handle that way. On camouflage schemes it helps to lighten the centers of the panels with a lighter shade and then to unify the surface with a thin filter. The underside of the fuselage and the area around the exhausts will take careful weathering with pigments, but with restraint, as machines in service tend to be well maintained.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
