A masking set in kabuki tape for a model of the Mi-17 transport helicopter in 1:48 scale, listed as the basic variant of the range.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set makes it easier to paint glazing and other areas that are to stay without a finish. The elements are cut to shape, so there is no measuring out and cutting of tape directly on the model. On the Mi-17 that is no small matter: the cabin has a glazed nose, bulged side windows and upper panels above them, so there are a great many frames and every piece of tape cut by hand is an opportunity for an uneven edge.
The material is kabuki tape, that is, a thin paper masking tape that can be pressed into a curve and that leaves no remains of adhesive on the surface once removed. The set is listed as the basic variant of the range; the extended variants of the same range tend to be more comprehensive.
The masks are applied before spraying, never onto a finished coat. Wash and degrease the glazing first, otherwise the tape will not hold. Lift the elements with tweezers, set them in place and press the edges down properly, so that no paint runs under them. Apply the paint in thin layers, because a thick coat tends to creep underneath. Take the mask off once the paint is dry to the touch, before the finish has fully cured, and pull it along the surface at a sharp angle rather than straight up.
The model of the helicopter, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
