SX-Art 1:72 Paint mask P-51D is a masking set for painting a model of the American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The SX-Art product is not a kit, but an aid that speeds up and sharpens the painting of a finished airframe. The masks are laid on the places where a crisp transition between shades is to appear or where the surface is to stay untouched. The modeler thus avoids the tedious cutting of tape along complicated outlines and, above all, the risk that the cut shifts by a few tenths of a millimeter.
The P-51D is the most widespread version of the Mustang and at the same time the most easily recognized. It brought the bubble canopy with a cut-down fuselage spine, which markedly improved the view to the rear, and gun armament extended to six machine guns in the wing. Combined with the supercharged Merlin engine and drop tanks, it could escort bomber formations as far as targets deep inside Germany, a task that earlier fighters were not up to.
Masking is harder on a polished aluminum surface than on a matte finish, because metal shades stand less handling. Lay the mask down accurately the first time, therefore, and do not shift it needlessly. Before you start spraying, check that the edges adhere, using a wooden toothpick. After removing it, let the model rest another day, and only then set about varnishing and decals.
