Thirteen-inch rims in the CD30 pattern from an Italian supplier of light wheels, 1:24 scale, cast in resin. The package does not contain tires.
Responsibility details are not available.
The CD30 pattern grew out of a time when a light alloy wheel stopped being taken for a racing extravagance and began to be offered as an option on an ordinary coupe. The Turin maker supplied wheels across Italian production, so the same shape can be met on the sharper versions of production cars as well as on competition specials built on their basis. Thirteen inches meanwhile meant a quite respectable diameter at the time.
You can recognize a cast wheel by the rounded transition between the arm and the rim; nothing there is sharply bent, because molten alloy does not hold such a shape. The casting takes that feature over faithfully, which means it has to be respected in painting as well. Sharp edges created by sanding look false, whereas a softly polished surface with a lighter touch on the edges looks exactly like light alloy after a few years of use.
Without tires the rim is only half the work, but it is also freedom: you can choose the tire according to whether you are building a road car with a taller sidewall or a competition version on a low profile. The difference between the two is fundamental on a finished model and decides how the car will read. Before fitting, check that the inner edge of the rim seats into the tire without force; take any overhang off with a round file in small amounts and keep trying it, because material can always be removed and never added.
