Cromodora rims, fourteen inches, 1:24 scale

An accessory set of wheels for car models in 1:24 scale. The rims have the Cromodora form and a diameter of fourteen inches on the subject, that is a size typical of European cars of the seventies and eighties.

The real subject

Cromodora is an Italian manufacturer of cast wheels whose rims appeared on the Italian cars of that time and became a recognizable mark for them. Fourteen inches comes across as small today, but it is exactly by that that a build is faithful: on a period car a large wheel looks false and quickly gives away that a model came about from parts that do not belong together. A small rim with a tall tire sidewall therefore suits older bodies far better.

Building and painting tips

• Seat the wheel dry first; the hole for the axle pin tends to need widening with a drill.
• Cut the excess material and the marks left by production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the area down.
• Wash and degrease the surface before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the part.
• Apply a metallic or light gray shade in thin layers, so that the drawing of the spokes stays visible.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; it holds regardless of what the parts are made of.
