A sporting pattern for the Panamera

Against the calmer factory form, this pattern has crisper, more markedly offset spokes and comes across as more aggressive. On a model the difference is clearly apparent above all from the front, where the light draws out the edges between the individual arms. The set ends with the rims; the shoes remain up to the modeler.

Preparing the surface

The crisp drawing is the most valuable quality of the whole part, and at the same time the first thing that careless sanding destroys. Take the marks left by production off with a stroke of the blade led parallel with the edge, never across it. Small unevennesses inside can be polished out with a piece of emery stuck to a thin skewer. Once cleaned, rinse the part and let it dry completely, and only then does the paint come in turn.

Dark shades and how to manage them

Sporting forms are usually worn in graphite or satin black. These shades are treacherous in that they hide the shape: if they are applied at full strength, the wheel merges into one dark area. It helps to spray a tone a step lighter first, then to cover it only lightly with the target color and finally to go over the tops of the edges with a dry brush loaded with silver. The shape thereby comes back.

Before the shoes come

The diameter corresponds to twenty-one inches, and a tire with a low sidewall belongs with it. You will take it either from another set or from the variant of the same pattern supplied with rubber already. Before fitting, check that the inner wall of the rim does not foul the brake disc of the kit, because it is precisely with large diameters that the disc tends to be undersized and replacing it suggests itself.
