The Bavarian factory rim number 24 in a seventeen-inch diameter with an ordinary road tire, four pieces, 1:24 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Of the three forms in which this rim is made, this one is the least conspicuous and at the same time the most usable. The tire is of normal width, the side bulges slightly outward and the wheel therefore looks exactly the way a car parked on the street looks. Anyone who is building a model in its series form, or only wants to swap the coarse rubber from the box for something better shaped, usually reaches for this one.
The Bavarian carmaker carried its wheel designs under sequence numbers, and the twenty-fourth belonged to the range at a time when a seventeen-inch diameter was only becoming available. The shape is built on slender arms running out from the center; between them the brake can be seen, which was new back then and is a matter of course today.
Four assemblies of a rim with a tire are supplied. The tread carries longitudinal grooves and transverse cuts, and the side has raised markings of the size and the make, even if without legible letters at an ordinary glance.
Rubber is never black. It looks best as a dark gray with a hint of brown, possibly with the shoulders of the tread lightened a little. The rim will then bear a glossier surface, but only when the base underneath is really smooth. Any scratch at all shows up twice over under a metallic shade.
The tire can usually be taken off the rim, which is a great help when painting. Once finished, the two parts are joined with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue on the inner surface, where nobody will see the joint. One last thing then remains: to stand the car on a flat board and check that all four wheels touch the surface at the same time.
