A plastic car kit in 1:24 scale by the Japanese brand Hasegawa. The subject is the Datsun Bluebird 1600 SSS, to which this release attaches the name Mooneyes, an American brand of parts and accessories for hot rods and custom cars that has a long tradition and a firm place in the Japanese custom scene. It is therefore a modified rather than a production guise of the car.
The 510-generation Bluebird was built from the end of the 1960s and was the key car with which Datsun made its name on world markets. The 1600 SSS version was its sporting peak: a 1600 with an overhead camshaft, sportier tuning and independently suspended rear wheels, which in this class was far from common. The combination of low weight, a stiff body and good handling made the Bluebird 1600 SSS a successful competition car that made its mark even in the toughest long-distance events. It was precisely this sporting basis that later made it a popular subject for custom work: a low stance, different wheels and accessories in the style of the American custom scene.
Classic Japanese sedans stand or fall on the cleanliness of the finish and on crisp transitions between painted surface and chrome. Carefully clear the body of seams, apply a primer and the covering shade in thin coats, then varnish and polish it at the end. The window frames and trim call for a steady hand or a well-cut mask. Finish the interior before you close the body up, and do not forget the belts and the sill plates. Lay the decals on a glossy surface and varnish over them once dry, so that their edges are not visible.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
