A license plate is a small thing on a car model, but one the eye finds immediately. An empty molded plate looks unfinished, whereas a legible plate places the model in a particular country. This sheet brings European license plates in 1:24 scale, that is in the most widespread scale for models of cars and light commercial vehicles. The designation Vol.02 distinguishes the second volume within the series. Which countries and which combinations of characters the sheet carries is shown by the illustration on the packaging.
An ordinary European license plate measures 520 by 110 millimeters. In 1:24 scale that comes out as a decal of roughly 21.7 by 4.6 millimeters, that is a strip smaller than the fingernail on your little finger. Parts of this size are handled with tweezers and in good light, because the text is at the limit of legibility and rough handling damages it easily.
Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version: a soaked self-adhesive film is ruined, whereas a wet-transfer decal can be soaked later as well. For the usual wet version, prepare a glossy surface, because on a matte surface air is trapped under the decal and the edge turns white. Cut the plate out close to the print, put it in lukewarm water and let it release from the paper. Transfer it by sliding it, not by pulling on the print, fine-tune the position with a drop of water and draw off the excess with the edge of a paper towel. Once dry, varnish the surface so that the edge of the decal disappears.
A decal sheet is supplied. A car model, varnish and decal softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
