This is a set of self-adhesive masking templates for a plastic model of the F6F-5 Hellcat fighter in 1:24 scale. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the Airfix kit parts, so the most tedious thing about masking a cockpit falls away: measuring, transferring the shape and cutting frames out of masking tape. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory used when painting one.
This set is double-sided. That means it masks the glazing from both sides, that is from the outside and from the inner face of the parts. Masking the inside always makes sense when the cockpit can be seen into: the frames are then sprayed with interior color from within and the clear areas stay clean on both sides. Alongside it the manufacturer also makes a single-sided variant, which deals only with the outside and is simpler. If a model in a scale this large will be seen into, reach for this double-sided one.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier-based fighter of the Second World War, a rugged machine with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The F6F-5 version was the late and most widespread variant. In 1:24 scale the model comes out really large, so even a small inaccuracy on the cockpit frames shows at a glance, and accurate masks pay off twice over here.
First wash and degrease the clear part so that the mask holds. Carry the templates with tweezers and press them down over their whole area, above all at the edges, or the paint will run under. Spray the paint in several thin coats; one heavy coat gets under the edge of a mask more readily than three light ones. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry, not after days, and pull it sideways back over itself, not straight up. If something runs under all the same, correct it with a pointed wooden stick moistened in water, not with sharp metal.
The masks are an accessory for painting a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
