Gas cylinders from the manufacturer Yamamoto Model Parts is a scenery accessory in 1:24 scale representing pressure cylinders for gas. It is not a kit and not a part of a car, but the fitting out of the surroundings. In a workshop or garage diorama such cylinders are a key sign, because they explain at once what kind of work is done in the space. With their upright shape they also break up the horizontal composition of a scene, which otherwise tends to be flat.
Cylinders belong against a wall, in a rack, on a trolley or beside a workplace, never loose in the middle of an area, as in reality they are secured against falling. Put them in a group with slightly different spacing and turning, and one cylinder lying down will bring the group to life. Try the placement dry together with the model and the figures. Glue them only once they are painted and dose the super glue with the tip of a toothpick, so that it does not run and dull the surface.
Clean the parts up, remove the casting remains and wash them in lukewarm soapy water. The color coding of cylinders by the kind of gas differs by country and by period, so check the shades against the particular subject of your scene. Apply a thin base, then two or three thin layers of paint; do not cover the engraving and the transitions which give the shape its legibility. The valve, the head and any chain are painted with a thin brush separately, ideally before gluing. Once dry comes a flowing wash into the recesses and under the head of the cylinder, then chipping of the paint on the edges with a dry sponge and rust at the foot, where the cylinder stands on a damp floor. Finally dust pigments over the surroundings and the lower part, so that the accessory merges with the terrain, and seal the surface with matte varnish. Between the layers always let it dry through thoroughly.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
