An injection-molded plastic kit of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 in its late form, from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The scale of 1:24 is large - the finished model has a wingspan of over forty centimeters, which means rich detail, large surfaces and a roomy cockpit. The kit captures the characteristic bulges of the fairings on the nose over the breeches of the fuselage machine guns, typical precisely of the G-6 version. The model is usually complemented by photo-etched parts for the fine elements and it offers a well-worked interior and engine section.
The Bf 109 G-6, nicknamed the Gustav, was the most numerously built version of the whole Bf 109 family and one of the main German fighters of the second half of the war. It was taken into service in 1943 and served in the front line right up to 1945. Heavier armament - among other things heavy fuselage machine guns, whose breeches called for those characteristic fairings, the bulges, on the nose - made it a universal machine deployed on every front against bombers and fighters alike.
Finish and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed up - in the large 1:24 scale it is plain to see and it is worth investing time in it. Use masking templates on the glazing of the canopy so that the frames look crisp. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, apply a primer and spray with an airbrush; the large surfaces of the wings and the fuselage will appreciate light shading of the panels and washes to bring out the rivets. German schemes often combine gray-green and light blue shades with fields of mottling - this is where an airbrush comes into its own.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
