Masks for the glazing and national insignia of the de Havilland Mosquito FB Mk VI, a twin-engine fighter bomber, with decals in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mosquito was built of plywood and balsa and its speed was long enough for it to do without defensive armament. The FB Mk VI version added four machine guns in the nose and four cannons under the floor of the cockpit and became the most numerous variant of all. Raids on precision targets in occupied Europe were flown with it, among others the attacks on the Gestapo buildings in Copenhagen and Oslo, where every meter of accuracy mattered.
The glazing of the Mosquito consists mainly of flat surfaces set into a wooden frame, and that is an ideal combination for masking. The cockpit is moreover a two-seater with the seats side by side, so the glazing is wide and a look into the interior cannot be avoided. Inner masks are no luxury here but a necessity, because transparent frames over such a large area would catch the eye at once.
The white stripes of the invasion markings, which the machines carried from June 1944, are sprayed through a mask more easily than applied from a decal, because they wrap around the fuselage and the wing across several edges at once.
The surface of the aircraft was a plywood shell covered with fabric and painted, so a model should have neither riveted lines nor sharp panel seams over the whole area. Paint on such a surface worked differently from paint on metal, small irregularities of the base showed through it and the reflection was softer. Anyone who wants to capture that feature will suppress the shading of the seams and concentrate more on the unevenness of the shade. Masked glazing makes it possible to work freely with the paint and not to watch every movement of the airbrush.
A kit of the aircraft is not included.
