The shod variant deals with what is left to the builder with the discs on their own. In the package there are discs and rubber of a matching inner diameter, so the wheel goes together without hunting and without filing. On a car the size of a Mini that is a more noticeable advantage than on large bodies, because every fraction of a millimeter of play is visible at so small a diameter.
The sporting equipment from the end of production put the car on a markedly wider track and with it the typical squat stance. A tire with a low side underlines this: the rubber no longer forms a tall cushion as on the ten-inch series wheels, but rather a thin band under which the disc is the main hero. Anyone building an early car of the sixties should not fit these wheels; they belong to the last decade of production.
First try only holding the wheel in the arch. With widened fenders the clearance at the top tends to be smaller than expected, and that on the subject as well. The front wheels moreover have to cope with the swing when steering, so it is sensible to check both extreme positions and only then to fix the axle. Without this trial the mistake is noticed only at the moment when the glue has dried and the body is finished.
