A set of masks for building the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc fighter in 1:24 scale. It defines the areas that are to stay free of paint during spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter of the Second World War. The Mk. IX version came about as a quick answer to the new generation of German fighters and ranks among the most widespread variants of the whole type. The letter c in the designation refers to the universal wing, which allowed the armament fit to be changed.
A set of masks for building the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc fighter in the large 1:24 scale. It is precisely at a large scale that every imprecise color transition is conspicuous, and that is exactly what a mask solves: it defines the area that is to stay free of paint and saves the laborious cutting of strips of adhesive tape.
The masks are stuck onto a finished, clean and degreased surface before spraying, not onto dried paint. Press the edges down carefully so that paint cannot creep under them. Spray several light coats rather than one heavy one, because it is precisely a heavy coat that soaks under an edge most easily. Remove the mask as soon as the paint has set; it peels off a fully cured finish with more difficulty and may tear away the layer beneath it.
For a modeler who is building the Spitfire Mk. IXc in 1:24 scale and wants sharp edges on the color transitions without laborious masking by hand. The extent of the set, that is which parts the mask covers, is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Before you buy, please check that the set matches your particular kit, because at this scale kits of the same aircraft type differ in the shape of the parts.
The package contains the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
