An accessory for building the Shelby GT500

The set carries the name Shelby GT500 Customs and belongs among the decals imitating carbon fiber and Kevlar for automobile models in 1:24 scale. It is therefore aimed at a modified form of the car, not at the series version from the box.

The real subject

The Shelby GT500 is the high-performance branch of the Ford Mustang, where the appearance was always changed alongside the mechanicals: a different hood, different stripes, different wheels. That is exactly why it tends to be a rewarding basis for building to your own ideas, where the builder deliberately departs from the series car and adds elements the vehicle never received from the maker. An imitation of carbon fiber is among the most frequent changes on such a build, because it alters the character of a part without having to cut into it.

How to work with the elements

The procedure for applying them and the extent of the sheet are given in the manufacturer's instructions; go through them in full before the first element. The surface under the film must be smooth, painted and perfectly dry; on a matte surface air stays under an element and the edge then silvers. Lay the elements out dry first and cut them with a small overlap, so that they have somewhere to seat. Check also whether they are self-adhesive or meant for soaking: water will damage a self-adhesive film, whereas a wet decal cannot be settled without it.
