The decal sheet Xtradecal 1:24 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX Collection Pt. 2 brings markings for a large-scale model of the British fighter - the second part of the collection.

This is not a kit, but a decal sheet for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:24 scale. The Collection Pt. 2 designation means that this is the second part of a collection of markings for the same type - the sheet is therefore a separate accessory that widens the choice of schemes beyond what a kit usually holds. The 1:24 scale is exceptional among aircraft models: the model has dimensions that can carry detail, and the decals on it are highly visible, so the quality of the printing and the registration play a greater role than in the small scales.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the new German fighters - the proven airframe of the earlier version was given a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage supercharger. The result was a variant that restored the type's competitiveness in performance at high altitude and became one of the most numerously produced versions of the whole family. Mk.IX machines served with a number of Allied air forces and carried very varied color schemes and markings, which makes them a rewarding subject for separate decal sheets in particular.
The surface under a decal has to be smooth and glossy - a matte varnish contains microscopic irregularities, under which silvering will appear. Cut the sheet close to the artwork, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it to rest on a paper towel until the backing starts to slide freely. Move the decal into place with a brush, draw the excess water off with a towel and use a decal softener, so that the film settles into the engraved lines and the rivets. In a large scale, work in sections and watch that a large area of film does not fold over anywhere. Finally, overcoat with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the character of the surface.
The package contains decals only. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
