This is an accessory set, not a model. It contains seat belts for the cockpit of the Spitfire Mk.IXc in 1:24 scale, made as photo-etched steel parts. The STEEL designation in the name refers precisely to the material. Steel etch differs from softer brass in holding a shape better, so a belt can be bent once into a natural sag and will stay that way. That is essential with belts, because it is the freely draping straps that bring a cockpit to life. Check the exact number of parts on the box.
Seat belts are a small part in a cockpit with a large visual impact. In 1:24 scale the seat is clearly visible on a finished model and neither a molded plastic part nor a decal looks convincing in that area. The set deals with exactly this detail and is one of the simplest ways to move a cockpit up a level.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and never tear them out of the fret. Shape the belts gradually, with the tips of tweezers and over a rounded object, so that a smooth sag forms without a kink. Bend the buckles in a bending tool or between razor blades. Bond with super glue applied with a pin in the smallest possible amount, so that fine detail is not filled in. If the parts are pre-painted, do not sand them and do not paint over them; the surface is finished from the factory. Fit the belts into the cockpit before you close the fuselage, because once it is glued you can hardly reach the seat.
