The stock engine in an ordinary kit tends to be molded in a simplified way and the forced induction on it is either missing altogether or only suggested by a coarse shape. An add-on set makes it possible to rebuild the engine into the form that tuning and racing cars tend to have, that is, with a visible turbocharger group on an inline four-cylinder unit. You will use it mainly on models where the engine compartment is exposed and becomes the part of the finished display case that is open to view.
First try the small parts dry in the engine compartment, as it is always easier to alter the mounting than to reglue the set afterwards. For gluing use super glue (cyanoacrylate), or a two-part epoxy resin where a joint carries a load; ordinary glue for polystyrene need not hold on parts of another material. If the parts are cast in resin, wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting to remove the remains of the mold release agent and cut the casting blocks away with a saw, not with nippers. Painting is more comfortable before fitting: metallic shades on the body of the turbocharger, darker shades and a light wash into the recesses, so that the structure stands out. Hoses and cabling made from thin tubing then tie the whole engine compartment together.
